Along with a layout to suit an expanded family, we designed and built this new residence to be as tuned to its environment as possible. Situated on the ridge of the Oakland Hills, the home’s roof — clad with PV and solar hot water panels — is angled precisely to take advantage of the sun. The tower, constructed with glass and an interior concrete wall, soaks up the sun’s energy, heating and cooling space naturally. The green roof contributes energy conservation and stormwater control benefits, as well as a usable yard on top of the house.
